SAVA RECREATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL CENTRE (RIC SAVA)

When we happily set off for a long walk.

THE SAVA – A RIVER WHICH LINKS

The recreational and educational area along the Sava river stretches from Tomačevo to Sneberje and totals 144,618 square metres, intended for children, people with disabilities and other residents of the region, visitors and tourists.

GREEN OASIS

The Centre provides recreation and relaxation in the countryside, focusing on riding sports, educating young people in that sport and a responsible attitude towards nature and the environment. Managing the area along the Sava from Jarše to Nemška cesta has made the area more attractive for those seeking recreation, visitors and tourists. In addition, this area is a green oasis of Ljubljana.

URBAN AREA

It is an urban area, a once degraded (fly tipping) zone, where there used to be too few managed green spaces or areas for recreation, relaxation or active tourism, so it made sense to manage this area. Cycling, running, riding and walking are now possible across the entire area from Črnuče Bridge to Šmartno, including in the evenings (there is street lighting along the path powered by photovoltaics).

CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND

A large children's playground offers a range of wooden equipment that transports the youngest and their parents into the world of the imagination. Playing in the heart of the natural world not only offers free socialising, but children can also develop their basic motor skills, which is exceptionally important in life's early years. The playground is just a stone's throw from the Sava, and Icelandic horses, classrooms and picnic spaces make it very suitable for birthday parties.

MINI SURVEY

Have you been to or are you planning to visit the path along the Sava?

FROM RIC SAVA TO SNEBERJE

From RIC Sava car park past the horse stables, the mini zoo and children's playground to the path along the Sava, where we turn right and follow the course of the Sava to the motorway bridge in Sneberje. The path leads us past individual farms, football pitches, dog-training facilities and through fields to the bridge. The return journey leads partly along the same and partly along nearby paths. Most of the path is on a hardened road surface. The route is moderately difficult and requires some knowledge of riding.
