LJUBLJANA REGIONAL WASTE MANAGEMENT CENTRE

The largest cohesion and environmental project in the country, which will process the waste from a third of Slovenia.

ABOUT THE REGIONAL WASTE MANAGEMENT CENTRE

The Regional Centre consists of disposal fields for non-hazardous waste, a treatment plant for leachate water treatment plant for leachate water treatment and waste processing facilities. A new disposal field has been in use since 2009, the wastewater treatment plant for leachate has been running since 2011, while constructing buildings for waste processing, the most complex part of the project, was finished in 2015.

AS EARLY AS 2015

The waste processing plant, as LRWMC frequently says, usees the most modern and sustainable technology for waste management by European standards and provide green jobs. The key part of the regional centre is three facilities intended for mechanical-biological processing of waste, for separately collected biological waste from which we can produce compost, and for residual municipal waste.

LESS WASTE

The amount of waste landfilled is greatly reduced: after processing, only about 20% of waste is landfilled, which cannot be reused as raw materials or for energy. Landfilled waste will not contain anything harmful to the environment.

A CASE OF GOOD PRACTICE IN SLOVENIA AND THE EU

Ljubljana RWMC, for which 65% of funding comes from EU Cohesion Funds, is a case of good practice in the field of linkage and partnership between local authorities and connecting elements of waste management between local authorities and regions. 37 local authorities are included in the LRWMC project, which will solve the waste problems for a third of Slovenia.

MINI SURVEY

What do you do with things you don't need any more?

DON'T JUST RECYCLE, UPCYCLE!

LRWMC is the most modern plant for waste processing by European standards. LRWMC also features a learning trail which runs between and within the buildings. Each will have one or two points set out for education. The learning trail, points for designers and the interior design in the administrative building are marked out by the creative reuse of used and renewed material (upcycling).
