Karl Falkenberg at City Hall.
On the first day of European Mobility Week, the broadest campaign to promote sustainable mobility in European cities, in which we are taking part for the 15th year running, Ljubljana was visited by Karl Falkenberg. He was the president of the expert jury that decided to award the title European Green Capital 2016 to Ljubljana, and is now an advisor on sustainable development to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. At City Hall he gave a talk entitled ‘Sustainability now!’, in which he showcased a report by the European Commission’s European Political Strategy Centre. Attendees at the lecture heard an introductory greeting by the Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković, and both subsequently participated in some further events as part of European Mobility Week. During his visit to Ljubljana, Karl Falkenberg planted a commemorative tree in the Park of Friendship alongside the Path of Remembrance and Comradeship (near a new building of the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology). We recall that this spring as part of as part of the annual charitable cycling tour connecting European green capitals, Falkenberg cycled to Ljubljana and donated the funds he collected on route to the Green Ring Society which works to preserve the significance, purpose and appearance of the Path of Remembrance and Comradeship.
