#LJFOOTIE, A NEW PROJECT IN THE FRAMEWORK OF EUROPEAN GREEN CAPITAL

Last spring, Slovenska cesta (Slovenska Street) in Ljubljana was reborn in a clean, new light. Road traffic was restricted, so that only buses are now permitted and cyclists and pedestrians are allowed freer and more relaxed movement. Following the example of other European capitals, we have enabled a so-called 'shared space', in which cyclists and pedestrians can move and cross the road freely and unrestrictedly. On the busiest section of Slovenska cesta we have planted an avenue, which allows passers by to sit on wooden benches in pleasant shade, which affords a green crown, and the cafes nearby are provided a space for their outside terraces.

Mark your photography #LJfootie.

Slovenska cesta has been transformed from what was once a very busy main urban thoroughfare into a pleasant space and promenade, where residents happily enjoy their free time. This year, we have also placed cyanometer near the Ajdovščina underpass, which measures air pollution in the area. Thus you can also check how the renovation of Slovenska cesta has improved air quality in the city.

The most prominent icing on the cake is the paving, which has been put down in an interesting geometric pattern, due to which young people from Ljubljana really like taking photos of it. To this end we have prepared a new project, called #LJfootie.

What does #LJfootie mean? Similar to a selfie – except that here the photography is not of faces but of feet. How can you take part? Publish a photo of your feet on Slovenska cesta on Instagram marked #LJfootie and thereby enter a selection of photos for an exhibition, which we will prepare in September at the Point. For you info centre.

As part of the project, we will be awarding interesting weekly prizes, so follow us on our Instagram and Facebook pages. Step lightly and make #LJfootie a nice reminder of the Green Capital project.
