HANDBOOK FOR SUSTAINABLE EVENT ORGANISATION

The goal of sustainable operations – partnership and social responsibility are interwoven in the European Green Capital.

We at the City of Ljubljana have set out a declaration of commitment to the organization of events as part of European Green Capital 2016. We would like all events to be carried out in line with sustainable development principles. You, as our esteemed partners in this project, are also invited to follow the commitment as our common strength will make it easier for us to become green ambassadors of the project. We know that every start is difficult and that the introduction of sustainable practices can take some time. We are also aware that we all face a great challenge maintaining the initial momentum. However, because we want to ensure that all events are increasingly based on the principles of sustainable development, we urge you to join us on the road to achieving that aim.

To help achieve the stated commitment, we have prepared a handbook for the organization of sustainable events. A good example for us in our preparations was the Handbook for Organising Sustainable Sporting Events, published in 2013 by Umanotera, the Slovenian Foundation for Sustainable Development. We also followed the Guidelines for Organising Events with Zero Waste, drawn up by the Snaga public company and Ecology without Frontiers. We prepared our own general guide for organizing events on the basis of their handbooks and useful tips.
