Face the foliage
Fun and creative ways to spend your free time.
The second blog in the Townie series is written by Živa Javeršek. You are welcome to read on.
I enjoy spending my free time surrounded by nature, on long walks or running and discovering the various hidden corners of which Ljubljana boasts huge numbers. In recent months, I’ve become very keen on making faces out of the leaves and flowers that can be found in the countryside. Some time ago I started following a foreign blogger who creates faces made of the materials offered by the natural world. It seemed very interesting to me and I wanted to try it myself. I went for a walk on the Path of Remembrance and Comradeship, while hunting everywhere for diverse leaves, flowers, branches, stones, in short, anything at all that I can use as hair, eyes, mouths, earrings or any other accessory in the creation of the so-called ‘face the foliage’.
Abroad, this creative topic has aroused considerable interest under the tag #facethefoliage which has collected more than 5,100 photos".
When I started creating, I found out how much fun it is. With just a few different layouts you can create such different expressions. Mainly it’s great if you can spend your free time in creative ways, and take advantage of what nature has to offer as well. Now that I am a bit more used to this I am increasingly drawn into the natural world on long walks, as there I can find ‘tools’, from which I can build a ‘face the foliage’.
Abroad, this creative topic has aroused considerable interest under the tag #facethefoliage which has collected more than 5,100 photos. Ever more often, however, I am seeing faces created by Slovenes and I am pleased when I see that creativity is spreading and that more and more people are creating faces from ‘natural ingredients’ and having fun that way.
Now get up from your computer, go out into the fresh air, to Rožnik, Ljubljana Castle or Tivoli and fill your pockets with every possible leaf from which to put together your first ‘face the foliage’. And don’t forget #ljzate :)
