CLEANING THE LJUBLJANICA

On Saturday 23 April 2016 the spring-cleaning campaign ‘For a More Beautiful Ljubljana’ drew to a close with the traditional clean-up drive of the River Ljubljanica.

The eco-cleaning campaign saw participation from divers, members of the Vivera subaqua activities association and members of other diving clubs from the Slovenian Diving Association, fishermen, firefighters, boatmen, rescue services ... all in all, many associations who work regularly for a cleaner image for Ljubljana and the Ljubljanica. The rubbish pulled from the river was put on show as an exhibit and reminder on Čevljarski most, the Shoemakers’ Bridge. A cultural programme took place at the same time along the banks of the river. Girls dressed in period costume as Urška strolled the riverbanks while the Water Man searched for his Urška, while Ljubljana Tourism handed out 1,500 pots of balcony flowers to passers-by.
